INNER WHEEL CLUB OF VIJAYAWADA

Well informed in all facets of the organisation is the eloquent speaker Sakala Niyanta from IWC of Vijayawada, the District Chairman for the year 1998-1999. The illustrative theme given by IIW President Lovise Richardson from Australia was ‘Make Our World a Better Place – Communicate and Educate’. Association President Shashi Gupta is from New Delhi. District Events during her Chairmanship:
• District Assembly ‘Mythri’ on 24-05-1998 hosted by IWC of Vizianagaram.
• Multi District Rally, ISO Meet & Platinum Jubilee Celebrations of Inner Wheel Formation ‘Shreyas’ on 25-10-1998 hosted by IWC of Eluru. Delegates from Districts 315, 321, 323 attended the event.
• Inter-City meet organised on 25-10-1998 by IWC of Vijayawada and IWC of Vijayawada East. PAP Vimla Abraham graced the
occasion.
• District Conference ‘Mithali’ on 30-01-1999 hosted by IWC of Vijayawada.
• Inter-City picnic of Zone II clubs organised on 16-02-1999, a first  of its kind. There were 20 clubs in the District during her tenure.
Significant Projects and Activities:
• Hosted 2nd AC Meet of the Association with IWC of Visakhapatnam on 1st and 2nd February 1999.
• Organized 5 Zonal Meets and conducted Polio Plus Workshop at every meet. Received special appreciation certificate from National Polio Plus Committee.
• 12 District Seminars conducted on multifarious topics: ‘Upliftment of Street Children & Child Labour, Girl Child Development,
Women in 2000 A.D., Woman’s Education, Role of Women in Social Change, Women & Health, Women-Psychological Problems, Youth-Hope of the future, Career Guidance, AIDS, Drug Abuse & Alcoholism, Blood Donation-Role of Voluntary Organizations’.
• Construction of toilet blocks for boys and girls at Government High School, construction of elementary school building, inauguration of LIFE Institute for visually impaired and donating necessary Braille equipment, donation of appliances to physically challenged, computer training to girls, counselling to women, project slate at home were the major projects undertaken by the clubs.
• Publications included booklet on AIDS & Polio Plus, PPI pamphlets, posters, calendars and stickers, 2 issues of Chairman’s Newsletters ‘Sanketh’ and Souvenir ‘Mithali’.
• Attended the Asia Pacific Rally in Chennai.
