Yellepeddi Manjula Ramakrishna from IWC of Vijayawada spearheaded the District as Chairman for the year 2006-2007. The activities of the organisation revolved around the theme ‘Show that you Care through Friendship and Service’ given by the IIW President Janet Day of GB. The Association was gearing up for
the Triennial under President Dr. Pallavi Shah from Mumbai. The District Events organised by Chairman Manjula are enumerated herewith:
• The Club Officers Training Institute ‘Manjari’ on 01-07-2006 hosted by IWC of Rajahmundry G.J.
• Assembly ‘Aarati-Maitri’ on 02-07-2006 also hosted by IWC of Rajahmundry Golden Jubilee
• Rally & District ISO Meet ‘Manovinda’ on 17-09-2006 hosted
by IWC of Vizianagaram
• Conference ‘Madhu Varshini’ on 26-11-2006 hosted by IWC of
Vijayawada
Revival of clubs was undertaken during the Inner
Wheel year raising the total number of clubs to 29.
Highlights of the year’s performance:
• Community Welfare: Major civic improvement
programs, function hall in temple premises, rooms
at cremation grounds, adoption of an entire village
devastated by landslide, water and wheelchair
facility at railway platforms, school at building site
for the children of labourers, beach clean-up.
• Upliftment of status of women and girl child:
Family planning operations, gynic camps, mother
and child clinics, training centres, self-employment and functional
literacy, legal aid and counselling, recognizing outstanding
women, education of girls including donation to District Corpus
Fund.
• Indian Art and Culture: Renovation of temples, honouring
artists in their field of expertise, visits to heritage sites, promoting
cultural events.
• Adjudged the Best Inner Wheel District Chairman 2006 by
the Breast-Feeding Promotion Network of India. Received
Certificate of Appreciation for outstanding contribution towards
polio eradication from the National Polio-Plus Committee.
• Publications: District Directory Maitri, DC Newsletters Mudrika
and District Souvenir Mallika.
• A contingent of 19 delegates represented IW District 302 at the
11th Triennial Conference at Mumbai.
