The Legacy of the Vijayawada Club 

As an international women’s organization, we members pf Vijayawada club respond globally to every issue facing our local clubs, districts, nations, and the entire planet.  The structure of Inner Wheel (IW) shows that the International Inner Wheel is at the top, followed by the Association, which is made up of several Districts, and finally, clubs with volunteers serving the community. Every level of IW has a governing body to support in efficient running.

The Inner Wheel Club of Manchester was founded in 1924 by Margarette Golding, the first of nearly 4,000 Inner Wheel Clubs today. By 2022, Inner Wheel has grown to more than 120,000 members in 100 countries.

  • Inner Wheel came to India with the formation of the Inner Wheel Club of Ahmedabad in 1955.
  • The 1st district in India, No.75 was formed in 1965, which is now called district 305
  • The 2nd district. 315 was formed in 1966
  • Our District 302 was a part of district 315 previously

Our District 302 was a part of district 315 previously. IWC Vijayawada was formed in the Inner Wheel year 1967- 68. The former Inner Wheel district 315’s physical boundaries included regions of Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Orissa, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana. Prior to the partition of district 315, our members  D. Balasundari &  A. Nookartnam served as District Chairmen for the Inner Wheel years 1980–1981 & 1982–1983 respectively.Districts 314, 313, 303, and 326 were founded following the continual division of district 315. 
During this time in 1984–1985,
 Mythri Grandhi, our member, was selected to serve as the District 315’s first chairman. Geographically, regions of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh were included under Inner Wheel District 315.  Our member,  G. Vijayasri Gupta, was District Chairman  in 1989–1990.

Inner Wheel District 302 was formed out of Dist. 315 on 1st July 1992 with the bifurcation of R.I. District 3150 into 3150 and 3020.

Inner Wheel Club of Vijayawada

An Ever Flowing River

A river originates in small streams in mountains and as it flows forward it merges into a river with increased vitality, always flowing, never losing its energy and elegance despite many ups and downs in its path; so too has the jubilant Inner Wheel Club of Vijayawada moved ahead for 55 years rich in its vigour and vibrancy in serving the community at large.

Inner Wheel Club of Vijayawada was inaugurated in the year 1967-’68 at Vijayawada on the banks of river Krishna by the eminent and committed Rotarians of Rotary Club of Vijayawada like Patibanda Sundar Rao, DSN Murthy, GS Raju, P Madhava Rao, Mani and many others.
Since then Inner Wheel Club of Vijayawada has been rendering yeoman service to children, adolescents, youth, women, and the aged in various aspects of life and community.
Inner Wheel Club of Vijayawada was formed on 07-04-1968 with thirty members under the leadership of Club President Rukmini Dutt and Club Secretary Sudarshan Malhotra. The charter was presented to Inner Wheel Club of Vijayawada on 23-12-1968 with the number 1353. The Charter Members Mrs. P. Subhadra, D. Balasundari Murthy and Mrs. A. Nookaratnam who joined the next year are still active and committed, infusing the members with enthusiasm.
The glory of IWC Vijayawada has been sustained by the memorable visits of eminent personalities like President of India V.V. Giri with his spouse Saraswathi Giri, the Member of Planning Commission and Member of Constitution Drafting Committee Durgabai Deshmukh, Governor of Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh Sarada Mukherjee, First woman IPS officer Kiran Bedi, IIW Presidents Gwen Daveis, Alison Dowson, Minna Kapur, Kamala Ramakrishnan, Abha Gupta, Pallavi Shah and Kapila Gupta and celebrities like Guinness World Record Holder for directing the highest number of movies by a woman filmmaker – Actress Vijaya Nirmala, Multilingual Indian Film actress, director, producer, music director, singer, writer Bhanumathi Ramakrishna.
It has been the proud privilege of the members of IWC Vijayawada to welcome over thirty Association Presidents and Past Association Presidents as their esteemed chief guests on special occasions. Experts from various fields were invited as guests to enrich diverse audiences at different levels, addressing seminars, workshops, awareness programmes held on wide range of topics. To mention a few, the Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University Dr KV Ramana, Vice-Chancellor of Dr NTR University of Health Sciences Dr L Suryanarayana, Registrar of Dr NTR University of Health Sciences Dr NS Das, Vice-Chancellor of Acharya Nagarjuna University Dr Raja Rama Mohan Rao. Many IAS, IPS and other officers of Krishna District and Vijayawada, Mayors of Vijayawada Municipal Corporation, People’s Representatives, elite of the society like Padmasri Turlapati Kutumba Rao, Padmasri Dr V Koteswaramma, Freedom Fighters and Social Reformers like Saraswathi Gora, Racherla Samrajyam, Woman Activists like J Mythri, Ex-MP Ch Vidya, Paripoorna, Hemalata Lavanam, Writers like Malathi Chandur, Indraganti Janaki Bala, Station Directors of AIR like P Vedavathi,K Krishna Kumari, Station Director of Door Darshan Vijayawada Y Sailaja, and so on were invited as the distinguished guests.

Sharada Mukherjee was an Indian socialite and politician who served as a member of the Lok Sabha in the 1960s and later as governor of the states of Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat. She is commemorated at the Vijayawada Club's Dolls Museum.
